November Blog A Day 8: What single word best describes you?

-That’s difficult. Would you trust someone’s one word description of themself?

What’s my word? You guys know me about as well as one could. Send in your answers, anonymously or not.  I’ll try and make an image that conglomerates them.

November Blog a Day 6. Whatever feels you have on this day, write them out

-Not too many feels today.  As a Democrat abroad, C has spent the last few days texting as a volunteer to get the vote out in pivotal battleground states. Each text has to be sent by a human, so she’s been hitting that enter key thousands of times and answering questions about voting locations, etc.  It’s been interesting to see the varied responses she’s received.  The people in Georgia are very polite. Missouri is another story.

-I went for a quick walk through a rain-damp forest. The maple leaves were beyond vibrant in the mist and grey.

November Blog a Day 5: Faith.

I tried hard to think of something appropriate to draw for this one and came up empty.

I have a solid background of Catholic education.  I also spent a decade attending a main-line Protestant church where I was occasionally asked to lead services when the minister was away. I think I understand something about the history and precepts of Christianity as both an institutional structure and a personal spiritual path. I like rites and ritual, and I really like old fashioned religious choral music.  I’m not Christian, though.  Not enough to identify myself as such, though others have seen it in me.

I’ve read Buddhist, Hindu, and Taoist philosophy. I’m fond of the mystical writings of Paramahansa Yoganada, and I also enjoy learning about the occult, magic, and shamanistic practices. I discern a thread which runs through all of it.

None of it adds up to Faith. I simply AM, and understand myself to be a cell in something incomprehensible in my present form.

November blog a day 4 :

– I’m not enthused.

-If I believed in the concept of “alpha male” humans, I’m absolutely certain no alpha male would identify as such in an About Me section.

-Fat people look good in horizontal stripes. Yes they do. I’ve never seen a fat person who didn’t.

-I’ve been watching a youtube channel that presents a weekly historical news account of the first world war for lo these past four years, as if in real time. I wonder what the host is going to do after next week, and a I’m a little worried about his future.

-Sunday should unfold in a natural way. Don’t deviate from Sunday’s timeline.

-Part of the joy of being a guitar repair guy is not having enough money to watch your clients perform. This was reinforced by a post I saw from another guitar repair guy.

-I woke up with Duran Duran’s Hungry Like the Wolf playing in my mind. It’s troubling.

November Blog a Day 3. What’s your astrological sign? Do you pay attention to horoscopes?

-I’m a Taurus.  Someone once said they could tell that instantly because of the shape of my forehead.   I think astrology can be a useful tool for introspection and self-examination but I don’t pay much attention to mine.

-Every now and again I’ll try growing my hair out, just to see how much is left.  I’m very annoyed by the fact that I’ve managed to cultivate a perfect set of silver temples that would have been a triumph had the rest of my hair decided to stick around.  I could have looked like the crooked CEO in some 1970′s detective show.  Sigh.

November Blog a Day 2. Do you remember your dreams? Do you have any reoccurring dreams?

I used to remember more dreams than I do.  The other night I found myself walking over sea ice between two Arctic islands.

I sometimes have premonitory dreams which aren’t all that useful because they don’t become apparent until after the situation occurs in my waking existence. They’re usually pretty mundane, but specific.

For Canadians the most polarizing Halloween candy has always been the Kerr’s molasses kiss, even more contentious than candy corn. These were a trick or treat mainstay in my youth. They’re like… tootsie rolls but harder? And chewier?  And with a strange pungent taste that seems to be straight out of the 1920′s?  They will instantly ruin any dental work, and have been responsible for millions of lost baby teeth.  They also have dynamite wrapper graphics that would make for a great tattoo.  I miss these things.
