No no no.  This is a thing.   This is from a delightful series of English children’s books called Swallows and Amazons, penned by Arthur Ransome in the 1930′s.

I tried to deliver a book report and synopsis in front of the class in 4th grade and was forced by the teacher to change Titty’s name to Kitty, lest it corrupt the tender ears of youth.

Actually, seeing this makes me want to find those books and re-read them, because they were wonderfully quaint stories about sailing.

Only Canadians say they should have spent more time in a canoe.  Just saying.

-At some point I learned that Europeans spend time in canoes, but they’re not really canoes. They’re kayaks.  And somehow they call canoes “open Canadians”, so I’m assuming they say they should have spent more time in an open Canadian, which makes me smirk.

-We don’t get MSBCN on tv here, but C. likes to stream Rachel Maddow from a tube site. They fill in the commercial breaks with this amazing  “piew piew, bup-buppa-bup piew piew” music that carries through the house. It’s perfect for almost every activity, and I’d like to order an extended-play version for daily life.

-I really need to travel someplace.  I’m so housebound. (Not in an agorophobic way, just a practical one).  It’s been way too long since I went… anywhere.

-I should have spent more time in a canoe.  Everyone says that, but I really mean it.
