hey guys can you help me find that old portrait of a girl holding a little painting of a naked dude and cracking up about it?? I want to say it’s by Rembrandt but that’s probably not right
It’s “Smiling Girl, a Courtesan, Holding an Obscene Image” by Gerard van Honthorst!!
It’s the best painting that exists
It’s my historical crush! (She also plays the lute, and sometimes the viol da gamba).
Favorite Christmas movie? It’s difficult to choose, but I think the most satisfying to me will always be the 1951 Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim. For a host of reasons, but the main thing is that appears completely removed from its’ own time. The 1938 film looks like it was made in ‘38. The 1970 version is very definitely 1970.
The cinematography seems like the product of some impossible photographic technology employed in 1845 and subsequently lost to history! The sets and props are so accurate, but it goes deeper. There are elements of 40′s noir of course, but there is an oppressive gloom in that film which is not of the century in which it was made.

I’ve got these shorts I’ve worn every time I’ve painted in the last ten years. They’re from a time when I was substantially heavier, and they’re getting perilously close to Kevin Smith jort territory. I can’t discard them, because they’re my paintingshorts, you understand?
