Tumblr will ban all adult content on December 17th

this annoys me.

it’s been fun my dudes

Doesn’t change things for me. But it does seem a little extreme.

I’m rarely naked, but I don’t support this. Tumblr as a corporate entity has demonstrated a singular lack of self-awareness almost from the very beginning and this is easily the final nail in the coffin. I can’t think of a better way of killing the platform.  It’s sad, because this place had some genuinely unique features which made it good for creative types. (I consider self-directed adult content in that vein.)  Ah well.  It was good while it lasted.

– I missed yesterday’s blog a day about favorite sounds. The most satisfying sound I know involves an electric guitar played with palm muting through a smallish amp and a little bit of reverb. A kind of crunchy cluck. Jack White is good at it.

-I spent half an hour this evening designing an A-frame cabin. I’m not sure how I didn’t end up living in a wilderness retreat. Why do I live in the heart of a city? Nothing about my early interests suggests this was probable.

-John C. Reilly seems like he’d be fun to eat breakfast with.

28. You’re given a random day off of work, what do you do with your free day?

-C. breaks this out whenever I forget which day of the week it is, because I don’t take time off unless I’m too sick to work. It’s something Maggie Smith said in an episode of Downton Abbey.

If given a free day, I’d likely go to the movies.

November Blog a Day
27. Truthful Tuesday

-The Romaine lettuce ban is hitting me hard.  Some of you know that I subsist mainly on gigantic salads and routinely go through 14 Romaine hearts each and every week. (This is not exaggeration.)  I’m trying to substitute with other leaves, but it’s expensive and there’s not enough bulk.  The truth is, I’m more elephant than man.

-I’ll be working ‘til midnight tonight and I have mixed feelings about it.  I’m happy that there’s work to do and I’ve always been a night person, but part of me is angry that I have to do this. Lately I’m becoming increasingly aware of how little life I really have. I’d like to experience more.

25. What’s your go-to pizza order? Do you have a favorite pizza place?

I can’t eat store-bought pizza, though I’ve been known to pick the toppings off and eat them on occasion.  Commercially made wheat-free crusts are pretty awful. I make my own from corn flour.

-I got non-dairy whipped topping in my beard earlier. I’m glad I noticed it before I left the house.

-Some of you will remember that I have a serious love of Coen Brothers films. I watched the Ballad of Buster Scruggs twice this week, and it’s come *this close* to knocking No Country for Old Men from first place in my affections.

November Blog A Day 21: Do you have any favorite traditions?

I feel really removed from tradition now.  I’m isolated between a departed generation and a nonexistent one, so it’s hard to be part of the chain.

There are some holiday things I still do for myself.  I always read Dylan Thomas’s Child’s Christmas in Wales every year.  I started a tradition of buying a Christmas tree on December 16th in memory of my Dad who died on that day, a tree the last thing he ever bought.   The week between Christmas and New Years involves doing a lot of jigsaw puzzles.

I try to keep some things alive in my heart.

It’s all a little bittersweet, because growing up I was more excited by the idea of tradition than your average kid.

November Blog A Day 20. What is one thing you haven’t tried but would really like to?

-I’d like to try making pottery. Throwing on a wheel. Making vessel forms.  I’d probably want to do raku glazes and use a wood kiln.
